Jesus said, “As you are going, make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” St. Matthew 28:19-20
When it comes to Baptism, the Bible knows of no appropriate age for the reception of this Sacrament. As a result, we believe that Jesus baptizes people of all nations and all ages. Every nation has infants, toddlers, children, mothers and fathers, men and women, middle aged and elderly. Christ makes no distinction concerning age in the Bible and neither do we.
What is Baptism? Baptism is not simple water only, but it is the water comprehended in God’s command and connected with God’s Word.
Which is that Word of God? Christ, our Lord , says in the last chapter of Matthew: Go ye and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
What is the meaning of the word, “baptize?” “Baptize” means to apply water by washing, pouring, sprinkling or immersing. Examples of this can be found in Mark 7:4; Matthew 3:11.
What are the benefits that Baptism gives? It works forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.
What are such words and promises of God? Christ, our Lord, says in the last chapter of Mark: “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that does not believe shall be condemned.” (Mark 16:16)
